Job summary

Jacobs in Boise, ID is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Cities and Places team. You will perform building mechanical analysis and design for projects locally and globally, producing technical reports, construction drawings and specifications.

You’ll work on HVAC, piping, and hydraulics, lead mechanical design efforts, collaborate with multi‑discipline teams, and grow professionally through challenging projects with Senior Project Managers and clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain.
  • 7-15 years of relevant experience for infrastructure/building design.
  • Ability to lead mechanical engineering projects.
  • Experience in multi-discipline teams with strong communication.
  • Construction support services experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with IMC/UMC/ASHRAE 90.1/62.1/62.2/IPC/IBC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building mechanical analysis and design for a wide range of projects locally, nationally, and globally, producing technical reports, construction drawings and specifications.
  • Design for manufacturing, education and healthcare facilities, data centers, planning studies, water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Support pipe sizing calculations, pump selection, piping systems, chemical systems, HVAC design, and hydraulic studies.
  • Grow professionally through challenging projects and collaboration with senior project managers and clients.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Mechanical Engineer in Boise, ID. As a Mechanical Engineering Professional, part of our Cities and Places team, you will be an integral member of the design team. You will have the opportunity to perform building mechanical analysis and design for a wide range of projects locally, nationally, and around the world, producing technical reports, construction drawings and technical specifications. Specific Mechanical design efforts will entail design for manufacturing, education and healthcare facilities, data centers, planning studies, water and wastewater treatment facilities. Additionally, your expertise will be leveraged to help support pipe sizing calculations, pump selection, piping systems, chemical systems, HVAC Design, and hydraulic studies.

You will have the opportunity to grow professionally through challenging projects and working closely with our multi‑discipline design teams, Senior Project Managers, and our clients. Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering registration (P.E.) or ability to obtain.
  • Range of 7-15 years relevant professional experience for infrastructure and building‑related design projects.
  • Ability to perform as a lead mechanical engineer.
  • Experience working in a multi‑discipline team with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Construction support services experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with US building codes IMC, UMC, ASHRAE 90.1/62.1/62.2, IPC, IBC.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Experience using building BIM drafting software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit).
  • Practical, hands‑on experience and/or construction support.
  • Project Management Experience.
  • Experience with alternate delivery (Design-Build, CMAR/CM-GC and/or EPC projects).
  • Experience in developing project level of efforts for building mechanical design.

The base salary range for this position is $85,000.00 to $132,750.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
