Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Mid-level Systems Administrator for its Federal Strategic Cyber program, located in the Washington, DC area. This role emphasizes Linux administration, Ubuntu proficiency, and security controls across production environments.

You will assess systems, review software, and analyze hardware/software interfaces to ensure safety and mission-critical performance. A TS/SCI-eligible clearance and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years experience; 4 years in lieu of degree accepted.
• Minimum 3 years Linux in production environments.
• Strong hands-on with Ubuntu Linux.
• TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH knowledge.
• US citizenship required; Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and polygraph.

Responsibilities

Peraton is currently seeking to hire a Mid-level Systems Administrator for its' Federal Strategic Cyber program.

Location: Washington, DC

In this role, you will:

• Perform assessments of systems, reviewing software with a focus on finding flaws and suggesting possible improvements.
• Perform code examination, analysis, and testing.
• Potentially work with system simulators and statistical analysis.
• Review and analyze systems, platforms, applications, and their interfaces to quickly acquire system knowledge to understand the design and functionality.
• Identify the hardware and software portions of systems for safety and mission critical functionality.
• Perform detailed evaluation of embedded software to verify that software requirements are correctly implemented in the design and code of embedded computers and that the resulting code does not contain embedded safety hazards.
• Identify requirements, design, and test procedures that will ensure the system will perform as expected.
• Document analysis performed with resulting anomalies identified.
• Present findings to peers, customers, and management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors degree and minimum of 5 years experience; an additional 4 years in lieu of bachelors degree will be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience administering and supporting Linux systems in production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Ubuntu Linux.
• Solid understanding of Linux system administration concepts.
• Proficiency with the Linux command line and common shell utilities
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across operating systems.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, routing, firewalls, and common network troubleshooting tools.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting servers in virtualized or cloud environments.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and diagnosing system health and performance issues.
• Understanding of system security fundamentals, including patch management, access controls, SSH security, and vulnerability remediation.
• Ability to document infrastructure, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes clearly.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain a polygraph.

Preferred/Nice to have:

• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Experience with Ansible or other configuration-management/automation tools.
• Experience writing Bash or other shell scripts for system administration and automation.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
• Experience administering web servers, reverse proxies, or application infrastructure such as Nginx.
• Familiarity with databases and troubleshooting application/database connectivity.
• Familiarity with centralized logging and monitoring platforms such as Grafana, ELK
• Experience with scripting or automation using Python
• Exposure to high-availability, load balancing, and scalable infrastructure concepts.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
