Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in CS/CE/SE or related technical discipline, PLUS 14+ years of software development experience OR High School Diploma/GED PLUS 18+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Zabbix development, configuration, templates, and scaling for enterprise monitoring.
• Proficiency in Python and Java for developing custom plugins and monitoring integrations; strong Bash scripting for automation.
• Deep Linux system administration, service management, log analysis, and performance troubleshooting.

Job Description

ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED We are seeking an ever-curious Zabbix / Systems Engineer to join our team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will take ownership of enterprise monitoring, performance tracking, and system observability tools deployed across complex, high-demand Linux environments.

As an engineer at Nyla, you won't just look at dashboards—you will active write code, customize monitoring workflows, and build automated solutions that keep mission-critical systems healthy. You will leverage strong development skills in Python and Java, script solutions for system automation, and integrate monitoring frameworks like Zabbix with Custom Software Components (CSC). If you thrive in a collaborative environment where clean code, continuous learning, and proactive problem-solving directly support operational success, Team Nyla is looking for you.

The annual base salary range for this role is $201,000-$238,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.

Required Skills

Zabbix Development & Administration: Hands‑on experience developing, configuring, templates, and scaling Zabbix enterprise monitoring platforms.

Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python and Java for developing custom plugins, API integrations, and monitoring tools.

Scripting Mastery: Strong practical experience writing scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate tasks and extend system capabilities.

Linux Environment Expertise: Proven depth in Linux system administration, service management, log analysis, and performance troubleshooting.

Software Integration (CSC): Demonstrated capability to integrate monitoring solutions with Custom Software Components (CSC) and complex multi‑tier applications.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 14+ years of professional software development experience OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 18+ years of hands‑on technical software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of additional observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch/ELK stack).
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud environments (AWS).
