Job summary

WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Grid Modernization Engineer for our Boise, ID office, with additional consideration for Denver, CO; Kansas City, MO; or Redmond, WA. You will join the Distribution Advanced Studies Team to modernize utility distribution systems and support programs like FLISR, Volt-Var optimization, and ADMS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years of post-education electrical engineering experience.
  • Ability to present information and facilitate meetings.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Strong English language skills and good written/oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Modernize distribution systems through planning, justification, and ongoing support of grid modernization programs (FLISR, Volt-Var optimization, etc.).
  • Lead engineering tasks on complex projects and prepare data visualizations, tables, and calculations for presentations.
  • Track project schedules and budgets; collaborate across disciplines on proposals and business development.
  • Participate in industry groups/conferences and support safety and ethics policies.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mid-Level Grid Modernization Engineer for our Boise, ID office. The following locations will also be considered: Denver, CO; Kansas City, MO or Redmond, WA. Your Impact
  • The qualified candidate will be responsible for the modernization of the utility distribution systems, this includes planning, justification, and on-going support of the following Distribution Grid Modernization Programs:
    • FLISR (Fault, Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration)
    • Volt-Var Optimization or other similar programs (IVVC, CVR)
    • Distribution Resiliency
    • ADMS (Advance Distribution Management Systems)
    • Electrification of Transportation
    • DER Solutions (DERMS, NWA/NWS, Hosting Capacity)
    • Advance Planning Techniques (8760, Quasi Static Time Series Analysis)
  • The ability to interact with a wide variety of people to obtain the required information needed for performance of electrical distribution system studies.
  • Leads and performs engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Exercises authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed. Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications for the achievement of overall business objectives.
  • Track project schedules and budgets.
  • Collaborate with professionals and other engineers across disciplines on proposal and business development opportunities.
  • Participation in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI).
  • Participation as a presenter in industry conferences.
  • Some travel should be expected.
  • Ability to learn/support other disciplines such as Protection, Planning, and SCADA
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
  • Understanding of basic to advanced engineering theories and principles, including understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to work across teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics
  • Must have strong command of English language; experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others
  • Must be able to successfully pass client’s background screening processes
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Proventrack recordof upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $107,500yr- $177,300yr

WSP USA isprovidingthe compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right toultimately paymore or less than the posted range and offeradditionalbenefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $100,800yr- $166,400yr
