Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Mid Level Electrical Engineer to join our growing power district. The role focuses on designing electrical systems for large power projects, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating with construction partners across multiple North American sites.

The successful candidate will bring a ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree with EIT, at least 3 years of power engineering experience, and proficiency with electrical design software.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and EIT license.
  • At least 3 years of power engineering experience.
  • Familiar with basic computer operation and introductory programming courses; ability to use electrical design software tools.
  • Experience in field construction or startup power plant work; desirable to direct junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques to design the conceptual of large power projects.
  • Formulate technical specifications and coordinate with construction partners; schedule, review design efforts and bid evaluations.
  • Prepare electrical designs, including layout, schematics, calculations, and conceptual design; use standard methods and project principles.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers; maintain understanding of standards and guidelines.
  • Work with a large project team including engineers and construction superintendents to deliver design and construction integration.

Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewt’s legacy of excellence.

Location

This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Lone Tree, CO; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; Phoenix/Tempe, AZ; New York City, NY; or Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to design the conceptual of large power projects.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners. Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award.
  • Prepare electrical engineer designs, including layout, design schematics, calculations and conceptual design; utilizing standard methods and project principles.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed.
  • Work as a part of a large project team including both in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction superintendents to provide our Clients the industry’s best of both engineering and physical design.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university and EIT license
  • At least 3 years’ experience performing power engineering related duties
  • Familiar with basic computer operation, and should have had at least introductory computer programming courses as well as the ability to use electrical department design software tools
  • Experience in field construction or startup power plant work and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable

Base Compensation:$103,000/yr -$108,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
