Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a design engineer in the Power district to contribute to concept and detailed design for large power projects across North America. You will work with cross-disciplinary teams and ensure constructability and safety from early stages, while mentoring junior engineers.

The role requires a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with an EIT, and at least 3 years of power engineering experience. Office locations vary; hybrid work possible.

  • At least 3 years of power engineering experience.
  • Experience using electrical department design software and basic programming concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and apply engineering techniques to design large power projects.
  • Prepare specifications and coordinate design efforts with project personnel.
  • Create electrical designs including layout, schematics, and calculations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and adhere to design standards and codes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and construction staff for successful delivery.

District Overview

Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full‑service consulting and engineering firm serving the infrastructure and engineering markets. Location

This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Lone Tree, CO; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; Phoenix/Tempe, AZ; New York City, NY; or Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

For roles in Chattanooga, TN; Detroit, MI; or Richmond, VA, the position will start remotely and transition to a hybrid/in office arrangement once the new office is established.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to design the conceptual of large power projects.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners. Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award.
  • Prepare electrical engineer designs, including layout, design schematics, calculations and conceptual design; utilizing standard methods and project principles.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed.
  • Work as a part of a large project team including both in‑house inter‑discipline engineers and construction superintendents to provide our Clients the industry’s best of both engineering and physical design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four‑year college or university and EIT license
  • At least 3 years’ experience performing power engineering related duties
  • Familiar with basic computer operation, and should have had at least introductory computer programming courses as well as the ability to use electrical department design software tools
  • Experience in field construction or startup power plant work and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable

Base Compensation: $103,000/yr - $108,000/yr
