Job summary

WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team on a nationwide basis, with preference for Seattle, WA and other major offices. The role focuses on design of substations, power systems, and generation projects, delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.

You will perform calculations, develop plans, review designs, and collaborate with project managers while mentoring junior staff and ensuring safety, QA/QC, and regulatory compliance across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of post-education experience as an electrical engineer for large capital projects.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience with Operations and project controls for reporting and proposal development.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and permitting.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management including rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance, and record-keeping.
  • Ability to perform technical computations involving electrical engineering principles and regulatory comparisons.
  • Project management experience with small to mid‑level projects, tracking hours and expenses.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to lead junior team members while adhering to QA/QC.

Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) – Power & Energy Team

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team. This is a nationwide search; any WSP office will be considered, with preference for the Power Generation focused offices in Seattle, WA; Meridian, ID; Atlanta, GA; Houston, TX; Oradell, NJ; Mount Laurel, NJ; Overland Park, KS. Responsibilities
  • Research, plan, and design transmission and distribution substations, power systems, renewable energy solutions, protection and control systems.
  • Partner closely with project managers and leadership to navigate current challenges and future considerations.
  • Lead by example in delivering high‑quality, safe, and functional solutions that meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Determine methodologies for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to substation components, procurement packages, design processes, and applicable standards.
  • Review and advise on third‑party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
  • Perform complex electrical engineering work on single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layouts, bus arrangements, grounding grids, lightning protection, and related design.
  • Incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and equipment sizing and cabling.
  • Support senior engineers with research, recommendations, and field equipment applications.
  • Provide technical input and guidance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance modifications, and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding, short‑circuit studies, protective coordination, and substation layouts.
  • Create plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and coordinate with owners and other disciplines.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations.
  • Maintain high quality and responsiveness to client requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist in analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of field investigation data.
  • Implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements for documentation, training, monitoring, and record retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline‑specific design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP, AutoCADD), spreadsheets, and tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience managing small to mid‑size projects.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $86,100 - $150,590. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other protected status.
