Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Mid-level Archaeologist III to join our Southern California Cultural Resources team in a hybrid role based in Downtown Los Angeles. This position supports project implementation, may lead crews, and reports to a Cultural Resources Team Manager.

The role emphasizes fieldwork, data gathering, environmental reporting, and collaboration with clients. Strong writing and coordination skills are essential, with travel across California expected as needed.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field.
• 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
• Willingness/ability to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout California.
• US Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Completing fieldwork (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring), archival research, technical report writing, and data collection and compilation.
• Gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports.
• Working independently, part of a team, and under supervision of senior staff.
• Ability to lead a team in the field.
• Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including NEPA, NHPA, and CEQA.
• Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner.
• Drawing conclusions and making recommendations based on analysis.
• Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel.
• Being innovative and a problem solver.
• Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.

AECOMis seeking aMid-levelArchaeologist IIIto join our growing Southern California Cultural Resources team. This hybrid position will be based in our Downtown Los Angeles office.

This position is a core member of the Cultural Resources Practice with responsibility for supporting all aspects of project implementation as well as leading teams, tasks and/or full projects.This is a regular, full-time, salaried position that will report to a Cultural Resources Team Manager.This position may serve as a crew lead, based on work experience and education.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field.
• 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationin historic and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
• Willingness/ability to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout California.
• Valid US Driver's License and pre-employment driving record verification is required.
• Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree inanthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field.
• 6+ years of experience in historic and/or precontact archaeology and cultural resources management.
• Relevant field experience in central and/or southern California and/or Western US.
• Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology).
• Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience and familiarity with tribal representatives for Southern California.
• Experience leading tasks and/or small projects.
• Knowledge of regional and local (Southern California) regulations.
