Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants seeks a Mid-Career Electrical & Control Engineer (Water & Wastewater) in Pittsburgh, PA or Salt Lake City, UT. You will apply electrical engineering skills to design and support water and wastewater projects for municipal and industrial sectors.

Qualifications

  • ABET‑accredited degree in Electrical and/or Control Engineering (required).
  • Advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Professional licensure (PE) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review electrical and control system designs for projects.
  • Perform load flow analyses, short circuit studies, and device coordination.
  • Prepare documentation including single line diagrams and schematics.
  • Conduct site surveys and assess installation/operation of electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and clients on meetings and data evaluation.
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support business development and mentorship within the team.
  • Travel to client sites as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, IEEE, and other standards.
  • Drive projects from scoping to delivery.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Apply experience, technical knowledge, and problem‑solving skills for the development and review of technical approaches and detailed electrical & control system design.
  • Design and develop electrical and control systems in accordance with applicable specifications, codes, and standards. Possess comprehensive knowledge of NFPA and IEEE guidelines and publications.
  • Perform electrical design calculations, including load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and protective device coordination assessments. Proficient in utilizing electrical engineering software such as ETAP, SKM, or comparable applications.
  • Work with engineers and technical experts to design and implement instrumentation and automation systems. Proficient in reading, interpreting, and developing P&IDs.
  • Prepare and update technical documentation and drawings—including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, specifications, etc.—for both Power and Control Systems in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Conduct site surveys and inspections to assess installation and operation of both electrical and control systems.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing.
  • Responsible for scoping, executing, managing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments at both task and project levels. Contribute actively to multidisciplinary project teams and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Consistent with our sell‑manage‑do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET‑accredited college or university in Electrical and/or Control Engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E.) (preferred)
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • At least 5 years (7+ preferred) of progressive experience in the Electrical and Control Engineering field with a focus on the design phase for process engineering projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Strong background with industrial equipment, electrical motors and VFDs, power distribution, Instrumentation, and Process controls/automation. (required)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge with applicable codes and standards (i.e. NFPA, IEEE, etc.). (required)
  • Experience of participating in and managing multidisciplinary project teams. (required). Excellent leadership and detail‑orientation skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, and meeting strict deadlines. (required)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
