Job summary

HDR, Inc. in Vienna, VA, is seeking a senior leader for the Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group Professional Services Leader role. You will guide technical staff, oversee project delivery, and drive profitability while aligning with HDR’s employee-owned culture.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in engineering or related field, PE license, 10+ years of leadership in water or civil projects, and a strong network in the Mid-Atlantic market.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience.
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams; commitment to quality, improvement and HDR values.
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers and other leaders.
  • Active participant in HDR's employee-owned culture.

  • Lead staff development and training in technical and business competencies.
  • Collaborate with Market Sector Leaders on workload projections.

  • Review fee proposals and participate in key pursuit teaming.
  • Support communication and coordination within all business groups.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Mid-Atlantic Water Business Group Professional Services Leader, we'll count on you to:



  • Be responsible to the Business Group Manager to develop, coordinate, monitor and improve technical competencies of Business Group staff to meet client needs and market drivers.

  • Assist with daily operations, such as project oversight, management reviews, financials and driving profitability at the project level.

  • Lead and monitor development and training of area staff in technical and business competencies.

  • Work with market sector leads on workload projections and coordinating workload sharing with other Business Groups or Areas.

  • Lead quality assurance efforts to implement QA/QC Program activities striving for continuous improvement.

  • Monitor project QC Review activities including assignment of experienced and qualified reviewers.

  • Lead and monitor activities for continuous improvement including development and use of technical standards, procedures, best practices and lessons learned.

  • Lead and participate in project reviews and support project teams with management of claims and losses.

  • Review hiring needs, requisitions and offers as delegated by Business Group Manager.

  • Participate in key pursuit teaming, staffing discussion and fee development.

  • Partner with Market Sector Leaders and Project Delivery Leader.

  • Oversee technical and digital delivery evolution, in collaboration with subject matter experts.

  • Work with Business Group Manager to streamline and coordinate business processes consistent with Area, corporate policy and MOA.

  • Oversee and ensure implementation of quality, standards, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with Area operations, market sectors, business classes, and delivery leaders.

  • Review and approve fee proposals as delegated by Business Group Manager.

  • Support communication and coordination within all business groups.

  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications


  • A minimum of 15 years' experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of the local market.

  • Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Mid-Atlantic (VA/MD/DC) Area

  • Baltimore, MD: $169,638 - $242,340.

  • Fulton, MD: $177,716 - $253,880.

  • Glen Allen, VA: $161,560 - $230,800.

  • Newport News, VA: $161,560 - $230,800.

  • Roanoke, VA: $153,482 - $219,260.
