HDR’s Transportation Business Group shapes the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. As a Transit Engineering Leader, you will guide a growing practice in the Mid‑Atlantic (Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia), providing programmatic and technical leadership as well as project management for transit‑engineering contracts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide programmatic and technical leadership for transit engineering disciplines.
  • Deliver project management for a variety of transit engineering related contracts (track, structures, facilities, and systems) for our clients.
  • Guide program growth, client engagement, and industry involvement.
  • Establish client relations and participate in marketing and client development activities.
  • Prepare scopes and fees for a variety of contracts and projects.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on staff assignments and assignment priorities.
  • Manage contract administration.
  • Mentor junior staff and support team growth.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active engagement in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.
  • Experience with Mid‑Atlantic Area transit agencies such as WMATA, MTA, VRE, VPRA, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, and local standards and requirements related to transit project delivery processes (conceptual design, feasibility, environmental documentation, PS&E, DSDC).
  • Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
  • 10 years of experience in transit engineering.
  • Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and possesses related technical experience.
  • Experience in developing and managing diverse teams.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business class efforts.
