The Orange County Information Technologies Department has an opening for a Microsoft 365 Cloud Engineer. The work involves the responsibility for engineering, administering, securing, optimizing, and supporting the County’s enterprise Microsoft 365 environment and other cloud platforms to ensure the reliable, secure, and efficient delivery and ongoing support of cloud services. This position ensures reliable collaboration services, strong identity and access controls, protection of County data, and alignment with organizational governance and compliance standards. The role provides advanced technical expertise in support of the County’s cloud strategy, digital service modernization initiatives, and cybersecurity objectives. This position will administer and support the County's Microsoft 365 environment and other cloud platforms, ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient cloud operations through effective engineering, security governance, compliance, and technical support.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the IT Applications Manager with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The incumbent plans and accomplishes work, makes decisions regarding customer needs and requests, and manages project assignments with a high degree of autonomy. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Performs related work as required.
Position location is Hillsborough, NC and this position does require in-office designated days each week.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field AND five (5) years of experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure AD/Entra ID environments, migrating legacy systems to Microsoft 365, managing enterprise-level tenants, and working with Microsoft Intune, endpoint security, and cloud-based device management; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for required work experience.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the state of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The incumbent may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Chief Information Officer.
This position follows a hybrid work schedule. Once eligible for a hybrid work schedule, the selected candidate will be required to work on-site on designated days each week to support operational needs and foster effective collaboration. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office and demonstrate the ability to perform successfully in both in-person and remote work environments.
