Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist in Microbiology for night shifts at the Strawberry Hill Campus. You will perform comprehensive laboratory testing to ensure accurate, timely results while maintaining quality standards.

Required education includes a 4-year degree in a relevant field; MLS certification or eligibility within 6 months of hire is expected. You will participate in QA/QI activities and mentor students and staff as applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biological, Physical, Chemical or Clinical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology from an accredited institution.
• High School Graduate.
• Meets CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
• Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation.
• Performs phlebotomy and sample collection as applicable.
• Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests to the patient condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical values.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Instructs, mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable.
