Qualifications

• This position requires a baccalaureate degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science and NAACLS accreditation.
• Requires a second baccalaureate with biology/chemistry/math coursework and NAACLS accreditation.
• Current ASCP or AMT certification as CLS/MT or Microbiology Scientist is required.
• Current AAB certification as Medical/Microbiology Technologist with 10+ years of high complexity microbiology work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operational continuity of the Microbiology lab and related areas.
• Implement and maintain the lab quality management program including QA/QC and documentation.
• Review daily test results and maintain schedules, records, and training documentation.
• Lead staff evaluations and act as resource for technical matters.
• Execute staff training and competency programs; coordinate orientation and ongoing competency.

Position Purpose Perform routine and specialized procedures, and reviews and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocol for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.

As a Supervisor You Will Have

• Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance.
• This position functions within the management structure of the Medical Laboratory and is responsible for the operational continuity of the Microbiology laboratory and other laboratory areas providing Microbiology laboratory services.
• Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of and participates in the Microbiology laboratory quality management program, to include quality assurance and quality control functions, review of daily test results, maintenance schedules and records, document development, creation and control, adherence to all applicable policies and procedures, and other related functions to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
• Responsible for the review, preliminary counseling, and participation in staff evaluations with the department manager. Acts as the resource person resolving technical matters.
• Responsible for the execution of the staff training and competency plan for the department, to include the documentation and coordination of orientation, training, and support for ongoing competency of laboratory staff assigned to provide Microbiology laboratory services as established by the department manager. The department manager retains responsibility for the training plan and acceptance of all training and competency documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology), biological, chemical, or related science, and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited clinical/medical laboratory science program educational rotation in Clinical Microbiology.
• A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, and successful completion of National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited clinical/medical laboratory science program. -
• Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification as a Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist, or Microbiology Laboratory Scientist or Microbiology Medical Technologist.
• Current American Association of Bioanalysts certification as a Medical Technologist or Microbiology Medical Technologist with at least ten (10) years of current Clinical Bacteriology laboratory work experience performing high complexity testing of all common patient specimen types.
• Can consider previously certified Medical Technologists who met credentialing requirements from the United States Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW certified MT) who meet the required knowledge skills and abilities listed below and possess at least 10 years of recent and continuous clinical microbiology work experience.

Pay Range $35.80/hour - $55.54/hour

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
