Job summary

BioCT Innovation Commons in Branford, CT is seeking an Analytical Scientist for the Applied Sciences lab to perform routine assays in production and R&D as needed.

You will conduct virus RNA extraction, RT-PCR assays, and a range of molecular biology, microbiology, and immunology techniques, while maintaining strict adherence to SOPs and safety guidelines. Collaboration with QA, Production, Engineering, and R&D is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in microbiology or biology.
  • 1+ years of production or academic laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in basic microbiology and molecular biology techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with micropipettes, Stomacher, biosafety cabinets, and autoclave.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and use laboratory software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform virus RNA extraction from biological samples using validated, automated and/or manual protocols
  • Conduct Reverse Transcription - PCR assays for detection and quantification of viral RNA
  • Carry out molecular biology (DNA Extraction, PCR, and Sequencing), microbiology (culture techniques, aseptic handling, microbial identification) and immunology (ELISA)
  • Support production laboratory workflows, ensuring high-throughput processing of samples with strict adherence to protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation of results in laboratory information systems (LIMS)
  • Perform quality control procedures and ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety regulations and requirements, including handling potentially infectious materials
  • Assist with optimization and implementation of new laboratory methods
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, Production, Engineering, and R&D staff

Summary

We are seeking an Analytical Scientist to join the Applied Sciences laboratory team. The successful candidate will be actively involved in performing routine assays in the production laboratory and R&D department when required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform virus RNA extraction from biological samples using validated, automated and/or manual protocols
  • Conduct Reverse Transcription - PCR assays for the detection and quantification of viral RNA
  • Carry out the following techniques:
    • Molecular biology (DNA Extraction, PCR, and Sequencing)
    • Microbiology (culture techniques, aseptic handling, microbial identification)
    • Immunology (ELISA, antigen-antibody-based assays)
  • Support production laboratory workflows, ensuring high-throughput processing of samples with stringent adherence to protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation of results in laboratory information systems (LIMS)
  • Perform quality control (QC) procedures and ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety regulations and requirements, including those specifically for handling potentially infectious materials
  • Assist with optimization and implementation of new laboratory methods
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Production, Engineering, and Research and Development staff
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in microbiology or biology or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1+ years of production or academic laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in basic microbiology (media preparation, plating/streaking) and molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, Sequencing) techniques
  • Gained hands-on experience in handling micro-pipettes, Stomacher, bio-safety cabinets, and autoclave
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn and use laboratory software
