Job summary

Xttrium Laboratories is seeking a Microbiology Technician to perform routine environmental monitoring, water sampling, and culture-based testing to support manufacturing and quality programs.

The candidate should have a degree in a life science and 1–3 years of microbiology lab experience, with knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements. This role emphasizes accurate documentation, sample handling, and adherence to aseptic techniques.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related Life Science discipline.
  • 1-3 years of microbiology laboratory experience in a regulated environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and aseptic practices.
  • Understanding of cGMP, FDA, ISO, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine environmental monitoring, water sampling and testing, post-cleaning surveillance sampling, and media qualification in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Prepare, label, transport, process, review, and document microbiological samples accurately and within required timelines.
  • Perform microbial enumeration and culture-based microbiological testing techniques.
  • Coordinate microbial isolate shipments to contract laboratories for identification, as required.
  • Maintain laboratory readiness through equipment maintenance, inventory control, supply management, housekeeping, and work area organization.
  • Complete GMP documentation, data entry, and record reviews accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP, GDP, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.

Position Summary

The Microbiology Technician is responsible for performing routine microbiological sampling and testing activities in support of manufacturing operations and quality programs. Responsibilities include environmental monitoring, water sampling and testing, and post-cleaning verification sampling of equipment and manufacturing areas. The Technician will also be responsible for media qualification. This position works under the guidance of senior microbiology staff and follows approved procedures to ensure compliance with GMP requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine environmental monitoring, water sampling and testing, post-cleaning surveillance sampling, and media qualification in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Prepare, label, transport, process, review, and document microbiological samples accurately and within required timelines.
  • Perform microbial enumeration and culture-based microbiological testing techniques.
  • Coordinate microbial isolate shipments to contract laboratories for identification, as required.
  • Maintain laboratory readiness through equipment maintenance, inventory control, supply management, housekeeping, and work area organization.
  • Complete GMP documentation, data entry, and record reviews accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP, GDP, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
  • Support audits, inspections, deviations, CAPAs, change controls, risk assessments, microbiological trend analysis, process improvement initiatives, training activities, and validation or qualification activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related Life Science discipline.
  • 1-3 years of microbiology laboratory experience in a regulated environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and aseptic practices.
  • Understanding of cGMP, FDA, ISO, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in laboratory and controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including gowning, gloves, safety glasses, and respiratory protection if required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform sampling activities in cleanroom environments for extended periods.
  • The position may require occasional schedule flexibility to support sampling, testing, manufacturing operations, and other time-sensitive activities.
