Job summary

Piping Rock Health Products seeks a Microbiologist I to perform routine microbiological testing on raw materials and finished products, supporting release and stability studies. The role includes record-keeping, instrument setup, and data preparation for evaluation under GMP/GLP standards.

The candidate will handle ELISAs, growth promotion testing, environmental and water testing, and assist with special projects. Some weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or Biology with relevant experience; Master’s with 1+ year preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or dietary supplement industries is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PET, environmental testing and preparatory testing is required.
  • Familiar with ELISAs, growth promotion testing of cultured media, Soleris, and water testing.
  • Proficient in data recording and reporting per GMP/GLP standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document routine microbiological testing to support raw material and product release, including stability samples and semi-finished products.
  • Set up and dismantle instruments; prepare solutions and media for lab procedures.
  • Record observations, perform calculations, and assist with data preparation for evaluation.
  • Communicate work status to supervisor; ensure compliance with GMP/GLP, safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain housekeeping to minimize contamination and safety hazards; participate in investigations when needed.
  • Assist in cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation; support regulatory compliance.

Job Description

We are seeking a talented candidate who is passionate about microbiology and is looking to develop their skills. The Microbiologist I will play an integral role in our team by performing microbiological testing on raw materials and finished products to support ongoing product release including but not limited to stability studies, new raw materials approval, and semi-finished products. Records test results, maintains the lab and assists with a variety of special laboratory projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document routine microbiological testing to support raw material and / or product release including but not limited to stability samples and semi-finished products in accordance with GMPs and GLPs.
  • Sets up and dismantles instruments and apparatus. Prepares solutions, suspension and media to perform essential laboratory procedures.
  • Makes and records observations, performs calculations, collects and may assist in preparing data for evaluation. Keeps supervisor / manager informed of work status.
  • Reports results of assignments and maintains and performs related record keeping in compliance with approved regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements. Follows and complies with all appropriate operations and testing procedures, GMPs and safety and health requirements as applicable.
  • Demonstrates good housekeeping practices to minimize analytical mix ups, potential laboratory contamination and safety hazards.
  • As required, participates in conducting investigational studies of atypical results.
  • Perform necessary cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant U.S. and international regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • Periodically performs duties of a higher position for the purpose of training and development.
  • Must comply with GMP requirements; specific functions and documents will be discussed in in GMP and on the job training.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year College or University in Microbiology (preferred), or Biology with 3+ years of professional experience or a Master’s Degree with 1+ years of experience.
  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical / dietary supplement industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with PET, environmental testing and preparatory testing is required.
  • Familiar with ELISAs, growth promotion testing of cultured media, Soleris, and water testing.
  • Computer knowledge with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Prior experience with electronic laboratory management system is preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work occasional Saturdays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours
  • Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment
