Job summary

First American is seeking an experienced title underwriter to join our agency division in Michigan. You will provide underwriting support for real estate title commitments and policies, applying standards within delegated authority to ensure accurate issuance and guidance on settlement services.

The role requires 8–10 years of title underwriting experience, strong real estate knowledge, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 8–10 years of title underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of real estate law and title insurance processes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to negotiate.
• Detail oriented with ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Responsibilities

• Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to personnel and clients for title insurance commitments.
• Apply underwriting standards within delegated authority to underwrite title insurance.
• Guide teams in real estate settlement services and processes.
• Issues underwriting standards and guidelines per company procedures.
• Communicate underwriting and settlement information to the team; perform other duties as assigned.

What We Do

Provides underwriting support and expertise to company personnel, agents, and customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance and provide guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.

What You'll Do

• Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
• Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
• Provides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
• Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
• Responsible for communicating information related to underwriting and real estate settlement services to team.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

• High School Diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• 8-10 years title underwriting experience.
• Must be familiar with real estate law.
• Excellent understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement process.
• Knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services.
• Understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
• Ability to collaborate and act decisively.
• Detail oriented.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills, able to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
• Strong negotiation skills.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $112,400.00 - $149,800.00 Annually This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
