Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division seeks a Manager of Training Administration to oversee the administrative infrastructure for workforce training programs. You will ensure proper scheduling, resource allocation, documentation, and data integrity to support high-volume training operations.

The Role

The Manager of Training Administration is responsible for the administrative, operational, and records-management infrastructure that enables effective delivery of workforce training programs. This position leads the processes, systems, and administrative personnel required to ensure training is properly scheduled, resourced, documented, evaluated, and executed in accordance with business requirements, procedures, and applicable quality standards.

The Manager serves as the primary point of accountability for the business operations of the training organization, including training records and data integrity, class scheduling and coordination, material and equipment procurement, budget tracking, classroom observations, instructor and course administration, reporting, and continuous improvement of training administrative processes.

Working closely with training leadership, instructors, production organizations, Human Resources, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, and other stakeholders, the Manager ensures the training organization has the infrastructure and administrative discipline necessary to support a high-volume, rapidly evolving workforce development environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day administrative operations supporting instructor-led, hands-on, qualification, onboarding, and workforce development training programs.
• Establish and maintain standardized administrative processes for course scheduling, enrollment, attendance, completion, qualification documentation, and training records.
  • Coordinate training calendars, classroom and laboratory availability, instructor schedules, student rosters, and other logistical requirements.
  • Establish administrative controls and operating rhythms that provide training leadership with clear visibility into upcoming classes, resource requirements, constraints, and risks.
  • Identify and resolve administrative barriers that could delay or disrupt training delivery.
• Training Records & Data Management
  • Provide oversight of training records, learning management system transactions, data entry, and associated documentation including ensure training completions, qualifications, attendance, evaluations, and other required records.
  • Establish processes for routine review and audit of training records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
• Budget & Financial Administration
  • Help to develop annual budget requirements and forecasts based on projected training demand, staffing, materials, equipment, facilities, and program requirements.
  • Monitor expenditures, commitments, forecasts, and variances and provide routine budget status to training leadership.
• Materials, Equipment & Procurement
  • Oversee procurement and inventory processes for training materials, consumables, tools, equipment, supplies, and other instructional resources.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, vendors, instructors, and program leadership to ensure materials are available when required.
• Training Quality & Class Observations
  • Coordinate observations of classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training to evaluate adherence to established training standards and expectations.
  • Maintain observation records, identify recurring trends, and provide actionable feedback to instructors and training leadership.
  • Track corrective actions and improvement opportunities resulting from observations, student feedback, audits, or leadership reviews.
  • Partner with instructional leadership to improve consistency, professionalism, student experience, and training effectiveness.
  • Support periodic reviews of curricula, course materials, instructional documentation, and training delivery processes.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
• High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting training operations within manufacturing, shipbuilding, defense, industrial, or skilled-trades environments.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), training records systems, or enterprise resource planning systems.
• Experience administering technical, skilled-trades, qualification, or production training.
• Experience developing dashboards and using data to manage organizational performance.
• Knowledge of continuous-improvement methodologies and process standardization.
• Experience supporting audits, quality-management systems, or regulated training environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing operations during periods of significant organizational growth or increased training demand.
