Job summary

Atmos Energy is seeking an experienced professional to lead the real-time SCADA and OT security enhancements within our gas control environment. The role focuses on planning, development, testing, and deployment of hardware/software for reliability and safety.

Key responsibilities include coordinating RTU/PLC projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, disaster planning, and staff leadership across SCADA and cybersecurity teams, with some travel required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years experience in SCADA programming and systems development or equivalent.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills.
  • Strong numeric analysis and statistical reasoning.
  • Advanced computer skills for SCADA environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages planning, engineering, development, testing and implementation of hardware and software for real-time SCADA, control and monitoring systems.
  • Coordinates RTU and PLC project execution, programming and commissioning activities with standardization, reliability and security.
  • Develops and enforces OT design and infrastructure policies; reviews and approves documentation of networks and systems; manages patching and maintenance.
  • Maintains relationships with service and equipment providers for optimal design, installation and maintenance of control, communications, and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Oversees design, maintenance and support of gas control center technical systems for a dependable control environment.
  • Plans and directs disaster management and incident response plans for the function area.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of the business and regulatory environment.
  • Determines future system requirements and submits projects with budgets, schedules and oversight.
  • Reviews O&M and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved constraints.
  • Recruits, develops, trains and manages a diverse SCADA staff including programmers and engineers.
  • Evaluates staff performance regularly and provides development feedback.

Job description

This position is located at a Transportation Security Administration ("TSA") regulated facility and must comply with all applicable TSA regulations. Successful candidates will be required to obtain & maintain TSA/KTN clearance.

Primary Duties
  • 1. Manages the planning, engineering, development, testing and implementation of hardware and software enhancements and maintenance for real-time Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, control and monitoring systems, cybersecurity systems, ancillary systems, communications systems, including voice and telemetry for measurement and diagnostics systems.
  • 2. Coordinates properRTU (Remote Telemetry Unit) and PLC (Programmable Logic Control), projectexecution, programming, and commissioning activities to assure standardization, reliability, safetyand security, to meet company business requirements.
  • 3. Researches, develops, recommends, implements and monitors policies and procedures relating toOT designand infrastructure. Also, reviews and approves documentation of new or modified networks and systems; provides a detailed description for reference; and manages compliance with governingOTpolicies. Includes software patch management and hardware maintenance needs.
  • 4. Maintains a relationship with services and equipment providers to direct the optimum design, installation, and maintenance of a multitude of control, communications, network, and cybersecurity technologies.
  • 5. Oversees the design, maintenance, and support of gas control center technical systems to insure a highly functional and dependable control environment.
  • 6. Plans and directs the design and implementation of a disaster management plan and incident response plan for functional area.
  • 7. Maintains and applies extensive knowledge of the business and regulatory environment.
  • 8. Determines future system requirements and develops and submits projects and programs including budgetary inputs, schedules and oversight within business constraints to meet requirements.
  • 9. Reviews O&M and Capital budgets and develops controls to assure that expenditures are within limits of approved budget parameters.
  • 10. Recruits, develops, trains and manages a diverse staff to perform assigned work. Staffing includes SCADA programmers, Infrastructure and Application engineers, and other related personnel.
  • 11. Evaluates and appraises staff performance regularly and provides feedback for employee development and career planning.
  • 12. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE LEVEL:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 7 years experience in SCADA programming and systems development; or equivalent.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Requires exceptional ability to communicate verbally with internal and external audiences; must possess excellent writing skills.

NUMERIC SKILLS:

Requires the ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages and simple statistical methods.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Requires advanced computer skills for personal computer and special applications used in the SCADA environment.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Primary job responsibilities require work inside and outside the office. Requires some travel including overnight.

Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, driving, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.

As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.
