Job summary

Qualifications

The Role

Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers. Position is specific to Virginia Class model conversion process (Catia to NX) and working with Electric Boat. Potential candidates will possess excellent communication skills with a teamwork mindset. Must be able to lead a team, assign/manage workloads, status and evaluate staff performance. Position will require reporting of schedule, cost and quality performances and to evaluate/propose changes to schedule. This posting is for multiple manager positions and experience with one of the following is desirable: ventilation, piping and/or mechanical disciplines are desirable. Knowledge of Siemens NX/Teamcenter, submarine design and NNS construction processes are also desirable. This position is for the Virginia Cutover project within the SUBE organization.

Must Have

• Design Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;
• or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.
