Job summary

Rheem Manufacturing Company in Montgomery, AL is seeking an ASME Hand Arc Welder to join our Water Heater division. You will weld metal parts per blueprints, adjust welding parameters, and select electrodes while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of arc welding experience, a high school diploma or GED, and an ASME certification. You will handle equipment setup, perform repairs, and ensure conformance to specifications in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • ASME certification required and maintained.
  • 1–2 years of Hand Arc Welder experience or an Associate degree/certificate in Welding Technology.
  • Frequent lifting up to 60 lbs plus occasional heavier lifts.
  • Must wear PPE including face shield, respirator, and protective clothing.

Responsibilities

  • Weld metal components as per layout, drawings, blueprints, or work orders using electric arc-welding equipment.
  • Set and adjust welding generator to ensure proper voltage output.
  • Select appropriate electrode size and composition and mount in holder.
  • Repair cracked or damaged parts and grow metal parts as needed.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, or vertical positions.
  • Clean or degrease parts using brushes, grinders, or chemical baths.
  • Inspect finished workpiece for conformance to specs.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Position workpieces and clamp or assemble in jigs or fixtures.
  • Preheat workpieces as needed with torch or furnace.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and observe safety requirements.

The ASME Hand Arc Welder will serve our Water Hearer Division, located in Montgomery, AL.


Responsibilities


  • Welds together metal component parts; as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment.

  • Must be able to set and adjust welding generator to insure proper voltage output.

  • Must be able to select appropriate size and composition of electrode and properly mount in holder.

  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, using welding equipment.

  • Welds in flat, horizontal, or vertical position.

  • Cleans or degreases parts, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.

  • Inspects finished workpiece for conformance to specifications.

  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scraper or power chipper, portable grinder, or arc-cutting equipment.

  • Positions workpieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures.

  • Preheats workpiece, using hand torch or heating furnace.

  • Required to pass and maintain employer performance tests or standard tests; as required by the certification standards of professional and technical associations.

  • Maintain good housekeeping in work area.

  • Observe all departmental safety requirements.

  • May be exposed to high noise levels.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • High School Diploma/GED.

  • Position requires Hand Arc Welder to hold, and maintain a current ASME certification.

  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years prior work experience as a Hand Arc Welder and/or an Associate degree or Certificate in Welding Technology.

  • Continuous lifting of 5-25 lbs.

  • Frequent lifting of 25-60 lbs.

  • Occasional lifting of 60+ lbs.

  • Frequent strain due to position and unsupported lifting.

  • Position will require the use of personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, a face shield, respirator and protective clothing.
