Responsibilities

• 1. Perform quality and efficient ultrasound imaging to assist with a patient’s diagnostic workup.
  • 1.1 Follow routine protocols and/or physician’s specific prescriptions when imaging; the role of repeat examinations due to noncompliance is less than 0%, as observed by supervisor/manager review.
• 2. Provide quality and compassionate patient care to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
  • 2.1 Thoroughly explain the procedure and ensure patient physical and emotional comfort, as observed by supervisor/manager and noted by patient complaints.
• 3. Perform various record‑keeping, customer service functions and communicate feedback to ensure department goals are met and operations run efficiently.
  • 3.1 Correctly complete charges for examinations 100% of the time to ensure proper billing, as observed by scheduling/reporting manager input.
• 4. Participate in teaching and/or learning opportunities to further personal knowledge and assist in expanding others’ knowledge.
  • 4.1 Be receptive to teaching technologists, student technologists and physicians in ultrasound, as observed by supervisor and input from these students.
• 5. Follow established safety precautions and procedures in all duties to ensure a safe environment.
  • 5.1 Operate equipment and perform job‑related duties safely, following procedures viewed at initial orientation, with no more than one non‑serious variance in this evaluation period.
• 6. Conform to hospital policy in general standards of performance and conduct to provide the best possible patient care.
  • 6.1 Foster interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, and fellow employees in a courteous and friendly manner with no more than one valid complaint in a 12‑month period, as evidenced by patient satisfaction surveys, patient interviews, physician and employee input.

Qualifications

Education

Associate’s Degree and/or education required to obtain RDMS certification. Prior experience specifically in perinatal imaging preferred.

Experience

Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry‑level standards of a routine sonographer. Prefer one (1) year of practical experience in ultrasound or related field. Require ARDMS registration in OB/GYN by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Knowledge of and experience with computerized documentation systems preferred.

Licensure / Certification

RDMS (OB) required within six months of hire. Nuchal Translucency required within six months of hire.

Special Skills

Excellent theoretical knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and demonstrated proficiency in the use of ultrasound equipment. Must be proficient and accurate in obtaining sonographic images and discriminating images selected for interpretation. Must possess outstanding communication and organizational skills. Required to interact with patients and families to provide information about the content of the sonogram as it is being conducted. Must possess excellent technical skills in guiding invasive procedures—CVS, PUBs, amniocentesis, etc.—and work accurately, independently, and efficiently to complete a minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) scans per day.
