Job summary

Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, is seeking a journeyman welder to set up and operate SMAW/GTAW equipment according to welding specifications for field or shop work.

Candidates must have at least 5 years of welding experience, complete internal tests, read blueprints, and maintain certifications, with a DOE O 426.2A equivalence and ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications

  • A journeyman welder with a minimum of 5 years’ experience and the successful completion of company established welding tests.
  • Must be proficient on all types of Materials and Processes. (Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Steel, Special Alloys) (TiG, MiG, Stick).
  • Must be capable of welding thin type materials.
  • Must be capable of meeting the Y-12 Industrial Hygiene requirements for respirator use.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Works in the field or shop on a wide variety of non-repetitive welding. Works from blueprints, sketches, and written or oral instructions. Will be certified on specific welding procedures and must periodically recertify on each. Must maintain all certifications and training required for the position.

Notes

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
