Job summary

The Variel is seeking a Life Enrichment Assistant for its Mezzanine Care unit. You will plan and conduct programs that support wellness for residents with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, and you will help create daily, weekly and monthly calendars.

You will train staff, collaborate with the Life Enrichment Director, and adapt activities to resident needs while maintaining materials and coordinating the memory care newsletter.

Qualifications

• At least two years of work experience in activities/life enrichment.
• Experience working with seniors with dementia preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent English language.
• Must have a passion to work with seniors.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct programs such as art activities, entertainment, brain games, and other wellness activities.
• Create daily, weekly and monthly calendars/schedules.
• Assist with gathering information and materials for the memory care newsletter.
• Maintain an adequate supply of activity materials, books, puzzles, magazines and games.
• Lead residents on how to use technology programs and train care staff to assist.
• Train staff on activity-related programs.
• Continuously adapt and grow the activity program and introduce new ideas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Title: Life Enrichment Assistant

Department: Mezzanine Care

Exempt Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Life Enrichment Director

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible the development, planning, scheduling and conducting programs or activities encompassing the various dimensions of wellness for residents with dementia, early stages of dementia or mild cognitive impairment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Essential Job Duties: Must be willing and able to do the following:

• Planning and conducting the various programs such as art programs, entertainment for events, brain and analytical games or projects, among others.
• Creating the daily, weekly and monthly calendars or schedule.
• Assisting with gathering information, articles, and phots for the memory care newsletter.
• Maintaining an adequate supply of activity materials, books, puzzles, magazines, and games.
• Leads residents on how to use technology programs and train care staff on how to assist.
• Training staff on activity-related programs.
• Always adapting and growing the activity program
• Coming up with new ideas to try with the residents in Mezzanine.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least two (2) years’ work experience in activities/life enrichment programs and/or teaching. Experience Working with seniors with dementia is preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. English language.
Working knowledge with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Adobe products
Must have the passion to work with seniors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works indoors and outdoors; must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently; must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and balance frequently throughout the workday.
