Job summary

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a metrology specialist to perform measurement surveys using Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, and CMMs. You will use 3D model drawings to plan surveys and analyze data for reliability evaluations, recommending metrology methods to improve product reliability.

The role involves developing and compiling analyzed reports, with Visual Basic tooling to enhance 3D software functionality as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduation certificate may substitute for Apprentice Certification and 3 years related experience.
  • Two years related experience may substitute for Associate degree.
  • Four years non-related experience may substitute for Associate degree.

The Role

Utilizes metrology calibration systems and techniques to measure characteristics of objects based on applied principles of measurement science. Performs measurement surveys using Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, CMM’s or other electronic 3D instruments. Uses 3D model based software and design drawings to plan and execute the measurement survey including the analysis of the collected data to the end user. Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design. Recommends design or test methods utilizing metrology methodologies for the achievement of product reliability. Compiles and analyzes measured data reports, includes analysis of relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. May utilize Visual Basic to enhance the functionality of 3D measurement software.

Must Have

A program graduation certificate from an approved institution may be substituted for an Apprentice Certification, Associate’s degree or other 2 year technical degree in relevant field and 3 years of related experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate 's degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate 's degree.
