Job summary

Standex International is seeking a Metrology Technician to ensure accuracy and integrity of measurement systems across manufacturing. You will inspect, calibrate, and maintain equipment, interpret drawings, and contribute to continuous improvement on the shop floor.

You will train personnel, program and maintain CMMs, perform FAI per AS9102, and support engineering with dimensional issue resolution while ensuring ISO 14001 and AS9100 compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of metrology, inspection, or quality experience in a precision metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) preferred.
  • Experience working with Epicor preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with clients & vendors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and pay close attention to details.

  • Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day.

Responsibilities

  • Train inspection personnel on dimensional inspections of raw materials, in-process components, first articles, and finished products using precision measuring equipment.
  • Program, train, operate, and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and other automated inspection equipment, as applicable.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications to determine inspection requirements.
  • Develop and maintain inspection programs, measurement methods, and inspection documentation.
  • Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gauge R&R studies.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 or customer-specific requirements.
  • Support Production and Engineering by troubleshooting dimensional issues and recommending solutions to measurement.
  • Verify manufacturing processes remain capable of producing parts within specification through statistical analysis and process monitoring.
  • Lead design and implementation efforts for inspection fixtures.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third-party quality audits as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all safety and quality procedures.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Metrology Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of measurement systems used throughout the manufacturing process. This position supports production, engineering, and quality by performing dimensional inspections, calibrating and maintaining measurement equipment, conducting measurement system analyses, and providing technical expertise in metrology.

Daily Responsibilities
  • Train inspection personnel on performing dimensional inspections of raw materials, in-process components, first articles, and finished products using precision measuring equipment
  • Program, train, operate, and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and other automated inspection equipment, as applicable
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications to determine inspection requirements
  • Develop and maintain inspection programs, measurement methods, and inspection documentation
  • Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R) studies
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 or customer-specific requirements
  • Support Production and Engineering by troubleshooting dimensional issues and recommending solutions to measurement
  • Verify manufacturing processes remain capable of producing parts within specification through statistical analysis and process monitoring
  • Assist Quality Engineers and Technicians with root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, calibration records, nonconformance documentation, and quality records within ERP/MRP and quality management systems
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal procedures, and quality management system requirements including ISO 14001 and AS9100
  • Lead design and implementation efforts for inspection fixtures
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third-party quality audits as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all safety and quality procedures
  • Attending meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Complete projects as assigned
Team Responsibilities
  • Provide necessary support to both facilities
  • Work in tandem with Manufacturing team
  • Have a daily presence on the manufacturing floor
  • Participate in audits at both facilities as requested
