Job summary

Rivian in Normal, IL seeks an experienced Metrology Technician to operate non-contact laser scanning equipment (CMM/Romer) to monitor processes and support problem solving while maintaining sensitive metrology equipment.

The role reports to the Group Leader of Metrology and requires collaboration with manufacturing to improve process capability and quality culture; it includes participation in Kaizen projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of demonstrable experience with CMM and portable scanners.
  • Level-1 Qualifications: able to create medium/complex measurement programs and templates (Polyworks, Zeiss, GOM Suite).
  • Ability to update and define extraction settings in Polyworks.
  • Capable of performing photogrammetry to pre-measure reference targets with minimal guidance.
  • Able to adjust measurement principals to address unextracted data in GOM Inspect.
  • Capable of creating inspection features, alignments, and element checks in GOM Inspect.
  • Intermediate GD&T skills; understands tolerance zones, MMC/LMC, and common GD&T issues.
  • Basic Catia knowledge and ability to navigate/download CAD files.
  • Create datum schemes from blueprints or CAD models.
  • Experience liaising with internal and external customers.
  • Create alignment of fixtures based on datums and verify datum holes in fixture CAD.

Job description

Role Summary

Operate non‑contact laser scanning equipment (CMM/Romer) effectively in order to control processes or to assist with problem solving while maintaining sensitive metrology equipment to ensure performance of the devices. The opening is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to the Group Leader of Metrology.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize advanced metrology equipment to control processes and solve problems
  • Support manufacturing team equipment and process capability analysis
  • Execute product and process validation / inspection plans
  • Assist in performing and teaching all processes and assignments within the department, with the ability to fill in as needed
  • Identify and contain suspect defective material
  • Inspect, test or measure components, products and materials being produced
  • Report inspection and test data
  • Continually work to control and improve manufacturing processes performance
  • Participate in quality related continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects
  • Develop, maintain, and improve the quality culture within responsible area
  • May need to perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of demonstrable experience with the technology (CMM, Portable scanners)
  • Level‑1 Qualifications: the user can make medium/complex measurement programs and templates (Polyworks, Zeiss, GOM Suite…)
  • The user can also update and define extraction settings in Polyworks
  • The user can perform photogrammetry to pre‑measure reference targets with minimal guidance
  • The user can adjust measuring principals to address unextracted data in GOM Inspect
  • The user can create inspection features, alignments, and element checks in GOM Inspect
  • Intermediate GD&T skills – understands and can explain tolerance zones created by GD&T controls, can explain MMC/LMC, can identify basic problems with GD&T application (e.g., perpendicularity with no reference to datum)
  • The user has basic knowledge of Catia and can navigate and download the CAD files
  • The user can create a datum scheme from a blueprint or CAD model
  • Experience in liaising with internal and external customers
  • The user can create alignment of fixtures (Check fixture/PCF) based on datums of the assembly related to the fixture
  • The user can verify the datum holes and net pads from the fixture CAD model
  • The user can correlate the part CAD to the fixture CAD and verify accordingly
  • Excellent communication skills
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. In the performance of the duties of this job the employee is required to travel (frequency), drive a motor vehicle, communicate using telephone and e‑mail.

Pay Disclosure

Hourly Rate Range for Illinois Based Applicants: $32 – $35.75 per hour. The hourly rate range is the lowest to highest hourly rate we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.
