Job summary

The State of Michigan seeks a Transportation Technician to assist the Senior Technician in soils investigations and to support the Materials and Testing lab with concrete, HMA, aggregate, and soil testing. You will monitor construction projects, perform QC/QA sampling, and operate technician equipment as needed.

Qualifications include an associate degree in related tech fields and a CDL with N or X endorsement within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in concrete technology, civil technology, construction technology, surveying technology, construction management, mathematics, or computer science.
• Possession of a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) upon appointment; CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions within six months.
• Three or more years of technician-level experience in quality control inspections, draft­ing, materials testing, surveying, or traffic may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordinating, and directing soils investigations.
• Monitor and inspect active construction projects and perform geotechnical quality control and acceptance sampling.
• Conduct materials quality control and acceptance sampling in the M&T lab (concrete, HMA, aggregate, soils).
• Operate vehicles for soil borings and subsurface investigations when required.
