Job summary

Cordia Omaha is seeking a Meter Technician to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and commission plant instrumentation at the Omaha Main Plant. You will maintain metering and control systems, ensuring safe, reliable operation and timely plant support.

The role requires PLC knowledge, strong safety practices, and the ability to coordinate with contractors and vendors while maintaining documentation and inventory.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or technical training preferred.
  • Experience in industrial power/energy plant environments.
  • Experience with PLC systems, especially Allen-Bradley.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, configure, repair, calibrate, and commission metering and plant instrumentation.
  • Perform instrumentation maintenance and operational tasks safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Complete equipment cleanup, general maintenance, calibrations, and required documentation.
  • Organize and restock supplies and maintain inventory for metering systems.
  • Provide timely updates to the supervisor regarding ongoing projects, maintenance activities, and emerging issues.
  • Communicate with customers, contractors, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Use hand and power tools safely to complete assigned work.

Job description

Summary

The Meter Technician inspects, tests, troubleshoots, configures, repairs, calibrates, and commissions instrumentation supporting customer metering and plant operations in downtown Omaha. This role helps ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted customer service by maintaining metering, control, and monitoring systems and providing responsive plant support.

This position is based at the Omaha Main Plant.

Principal Responsibilities and Key Results
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, configure, repair, calibrate, and commission customer metering and plant instrumentation.
  • Perform instrumentation maintenance and operational tasks safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Complete equipment cleanup, general maintenance, calibrations, and required documentation.
  • Organize and restock supplies and maintain inventory for metering systems.
  • Provide timely updates to the supervisor regarding ongoing projects, maintenance activities, and emerging issues.
  • Communicate professionally with Cordia customers, contractors, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Use hand and power tools safely to complete assigned work.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, business conduct, discipline, and ethical behavior while complying with company policies and procedures.
Requirements
Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to learn, maintain, and improve Cordia Omaha metering systems and PLC-based control and monitoring systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and the ability to learn required database and training systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities safely and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of operations and maintenance practices that support safe, efficient, and reliable production.
  • Strong safety-first mindset and demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to share knowledge and train coworkers.
  • Ability to develop work plans and maintenance schedules; familiarity with project scheduling software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of district energy systems is preferred.
  • Experience with industrial HVAC systems, steam boilers, and auxiliary equipment is a plus.
Experience & Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or technical training in automation, electronics, instrumentation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working in or around an industrial power or energy plant, utility, or similar operating environment.
  • At least five years of demonstrated electrical experience or aptitude.
  • At least five years of demonstrated PLC experience; Allen-Bradley experience is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience with flow measurement systems.
  • At least two years of experience working directly with contractors and vendors.
  • Experience complying with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated record of safe work practices and dependable attendance.
Additional requirements
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, a hard hat, appropriate footwear, hearing protection, and fall protection.
  • Ability to work safely around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Ability to climb ladders; move or assist with moving large or awkward objects; and push, pull, and use tools required for equipment repair.
  • Ability to transport and use calibration and testing equipment.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Availability for occasional overtime, including nights and weekends, as business needs require.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a plant environment and outdoors, including at heights and in areas with high or low temperatures and high humidity.
  • The role may require extended or nonstandard hours to resolve critical issues or meet project milestones.
  • Occasional travel to corporate locations and other company plants may be required.
  • Work may occur around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Use of a personal computer and required personal protective equipment is necessary.
