Train for electric utility metering products and field/shop service — no prior metering experience required

Position type: Full-time Shop and field Travel as you progress

Reports to: Lead Engineer/Electric Metering Specialist

About the role

We supply metering products and services exclusively to electric utilities. This is an entry-level role for someone new to the industry or with limited related experience. You will learn the trade under experienced specialists and technicians—starting in the shop, then moving into field work at utility meter shops and project sites as you demonstrate safety, accuracy, and reliability.

We will teach metering. We need someone who shows up ready to learn, follows safety rules without shortcuts, and treats utility customers professionally.

What you will learn and do
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, labeling, stocking, and staging meters, sockets, instrument transformers, test equipment, and parts.
  • Help prepare jobs: pull materials, check tools, and complete basic paperwork and work-order notes.
  • Learn to identify common meter types and forms, sockets, CTs/VTsts, test switches, and AMI accessories used by utilities.
  • Assist with shop testing, programming, and basic repairs under direct supervision; record serial numbers and as-found/as-left data.
  • Follow company and host-utility safety rules, including PPE, job briefings, and stop-work if something is unsafe.
  • Keep the shop, vehicles, and tools clean and accounted for.
  • Complete assigned training modules and on-the-job checklists. Work independently only after a specialist clears you for that task.
What you need
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company standards.
  • Willingness to work in a shop and outdoors, lift typical boxes and meter equipment (about 50 lbs with assistance as needed), and travel as training progresses.
  • Basic computer comfort (email, spreadsheets, or similar). We will train you on metering software.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, take notes, and ask questions when unsure.
  • Professional manner with coworkers and utility customers. No prior metering experience required.
Helpful but not required
  • Shop, warehouse, electrical, HVAC, automotive, construction, or military technical experience.
  • Trade school, electrical/electronics coursework, or an apprenticeship in a related field.
  • Hand-tool comfort and an interest in how electrical equipment works.
