Job summary

Eversource is seeking a Meter Service Mechanic in Norwalk, CT. This role involves installing, repairing, and servicing gas metering equipment for residential and commercial customers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, relevant gas-meter experience, and valid licenses or 10+ years internal experience. The role operates on a shift basis with the potential for overtime and emergency on-call work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• EEI CAST aptitude test is required for external candidates.
• Previous experience as a Meter Service Mechanic is required.
• Must hold one of the listed licenses (S1–S4, S5–S8, P1/2, D1/2, G1/2) or internal 10+ years experience.
• Must reside within 30 minutes of the work center and have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights.

Job description

Individuals will, under general supervision, install, remove, adjust, and repair all types of residential and commercial gas metering equipment including repair of residential heating and water heating equipment.

• Reconnect and disconnect gas services.
• Service customer owned gas appliances.
• Investigate gas odor complaints and provide repair.
• Install, remove, and change various sizes and types of gas meters.
• Investigate high bill complaints.
• Remove, replace, and install ERT devices.
• Remove, repair, replace, and install various sizes and types of piping.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with customer complaints at all levels.
• Responsible for on-call emergency responses.

Starting Rate of Pay: $46.04 per hour

REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Previous experience as a Meter Service Mechanic or the equivalent is REQUIRED.

The selected candidate MUST hold one of the following licenses in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job: Preferred: S1, S2, S3, S4, Second Preference: S5, S6, S7, S8, P1, P2 Acceptable: D1, D2, Minimally Acceptable: G1, G2.

In lieu of a license, internal Eversource employees with at least 10 years of experience as a fully qualified Gas Meter Service Mechanic will also be considered for this position.

The ability to perform inspections of non-handicapped accessible areas; to operate a motor vehicle and to lift and move material in excess of 50 lbs. is required.

The selected candidate must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights.

Visual acuity must be sufficient to perform wiring tasks, including cable color-code discernment.

The selected candidate must be familiar with MS Windows based applications and data input.

The selected candidate must be available to work extensive overtime when required, as well as able to work a rotating day and evening shift.

MUST reside within 30 minutes of the area work center.

MUST possess and maintain a VALID driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working with flammable gas, exposure to cutting oils, normal environmental elements e.g., heat, cold, moderate noise, etc.
