Job summary

North Alamo Water Supply Corporation in Edinburg, TX seeks a Meter Reader I to read meters for residential and commercial customers, record usage, and support related field tasks. This full-time role reports to the Meter Reader Manager at the corporate office.

Candidates must be fluent in English and Spanish, hold a High School diploma or GED, possess a valid Texas driver's license, and be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Training and compliance with regulations are provided.

Qualifications

  • Must read, write, and follow written instructions.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver license and be insurable.
  • Working toward a Class D Water license from TCEQ.
  • Must communicate in English and Spanish (oral and written).
  • Basic math skills for meter readings and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Read water meters and record volumes for residential and commercial customers.
  • Assist in delinquent account collections as needed.
  • Assist with routing, installing, or replacing meters and boxes.
  • Repair small leaks at meter sites as required.
  • Participate in training and comply with regulations and policies.

Meter Reader I (5 positions available)

Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week) Reports to: Meter Reader Manager Location:

Description of Duties Responsible for reading water meters and recording volumes used by residential and commercial consumers. Will assist in the collection of delinquent accounts as needed. May assist with routing new meters, for changing meters, installation of new customer boxes or for replacing old boxes, and repairing small leaks at the meter sites. Assists with working the locklist at various times during the month, or as needed. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

  • A self-starting individual who possesses a High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions.
  • Must possess a current Texas Driver License and must be insurable by the Corporation's insurance underwriter.
  • Must work towards obtaining a Class D Water license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Will be required to complete medical physical examinations (post-hire) as required for license recertification, respirator use, or any other job requirements.
  • Must have good communications skills, in order to comprehend instructions, create correspondence and reports, and to effectively communicate with customers and employees of the Corporation.
  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
  • Basic mathematics skills are required (addition and subtraction of two digit numbers / multiplication and division by tens and hundreds) when calculating for reading and testing purposes.
  • Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the workweek and must be on call on a rotating schedule.
  • Position requires the employee to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
  • May occasionally be exposed to extreme heat or cold weather conditions.
  • Position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance.
  • Must have the ability to frequently lif e items up to 25 pounds and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level associated with this position is generally loud.

Preferences

  • 3 or more months of prior relevant work experience, and current licensing.
