Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Meter Electrician C to install and maintain self-contained meters in the shop and on customer premises. You will read meters, test accuracy, program meters, and handle meter servicing as needed.

Candidates should have 24 months as Meter Electrician C and be able to work overtime and weekends, communicate effectively, and comply with safety standards. AEP offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or equivalent with four years of related work experience.
  • Background in substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance with hands-on testing and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum 24 months experience as Meter Electrician C or equivalent progression requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Read meters for field orders and cycle billing.
  • Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
  • Test meters (single-phase, network, polyphase) for proper operation and accuracy; program meters.
  • Perform credit and collections tasks including disconnect/reconnect for non-payment.
  • Investigate irregular usage and energy diversion; repair meters, sockets, and enclosures.
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meters and equipment.
  • Investigate power quality problems and install event recorders and testers.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot relay controls for capacitors, regulators, and reclosers.
  • Install antennas and radios for smart grid devices.
  • Work from ladders and elevated platforms.
