Job summary

Spectrum News, part of Charter Communications, is seeking an experienced Meteorologist in Austin, TX to forecast weather and deliver clear, accurate updates across TV, digital, and mobile platforms.

You will join a fast-paced newsroom that values data-driven storytelling, community safety, and timely weather reporting. Expect travel for major weather events and flexible shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• 2+ years forecasting and presenting weathercasts
• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology
• Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar
• Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
• Enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news
• Willingness to travel to cover stories and work different shifts including weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

• Forecast and present weather conditions across TV, digital, and other platforms
• Produce timely, accurate weather updates for viewers
• Collaborate with newsroom team to craft compelling weather storytelling
• Monitor meteorological data and systems to ensure reliability of forecasts

Required Qualifications

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM NEWS

• Experience: Experience forecasting and presenting weathercasts - 2+ years, working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar
• Skills: Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
• Abilities: Demonstrate enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news
• Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
• Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to \"breaking news\" and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• National Weather Association (NWA) and/or the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal
• Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and basic non-linear editing systems
• May be required to lift up to five pounds

Working Conditions

• Works inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year, however will be assigned to field duties as necessary
• Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
• Communicates in person, by phone, and by email
• Materials and equipment used: various studio, weather forecasting, and newsgathering television equipment, computers, and computer-related equipment
