Job summary

News-Press & Gazette Co. is seeking a Meteorologist/Forecaster to join our Local Alert Weather team in Central Oregon.

You will analyze weather data and forecast models to deliver accurate forecasts for broadcast and streaming audiences, working closely with senior meteorologists and news leadership. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in meteorology or atmospheric sciences, or a related field with strong weather forecasting interest from a communications/journalism background.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology and/or atmospheric sciences is preferred.
  • Candidates with a communications/journalism degree and strong weather interest will be considered.
  • Experience analyzing weather data and forecast models is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze weather data and forecast models to produce accurate, timely forecasts.
  • Communicate forecast information clearly to viewers across broadcast and streaming platforms.
  • Work weekends with potential weekday fill-ins for morning and evening broadcasts.

Job description

KTVZ News is seeking a Meteorologist / Forecaster to join our Local Alert Weather team, one of the most trusted weather brands in the Pacific Northwest.

Working closely with the station’s Chief Meteorologist and News Director, this position will deliver accurate, engaging, and timely weather coverage across multiple platforms, from broadcast television to streaming devices.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and/or atmospheric sciences.

However, candidates with a degree in communications and/or journalism who have a strong interest in weather forecasting will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing weather data and forecast models to produce accurate, timely forecasts and communicating that information clearly and engagingly to our audience.

This is primarily a weekend position, with the successful candidate also available to fill in during weekdays for both morning and evening broadcasts as needed.

When not forecasting, the candidate will contribute reports to our “Shifting Seasons” franchise, highlighting climate, seasonal and weather stories of interest to viewers across the region.

The ability to shoot, write, and edit video is a plus, but is not required.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about weather, storytelling, and serving Central Oregon.
