Job summary

WCBD TV, an NBC Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Group, seeks a Meteorologist to forecast and present weather across platforms in a manner that resonates with viewers in the Charleston area.

The role involves producing and delivering weather content, meeting standards for accuracy and quality, writing weather stories for web, and actively engaging with audiences while supporting breaking weather events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or related field or equivalent experience.
• Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication.
• Minimum two years' experience in weather reporting or anchoring preferred.
• Superior on-air presence and ability to forecast confidently.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms.
• Ensures weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Writes and delivers weather stories clearly and concisely.
• Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather content.
• Responds to breaking or severe weather events and urgent newsroom situations.
• Works with the weather team to develop comprehensive coverage.
• Participates in promotional activities and public appearances.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Writes web stories detailing the local forecast daily.
• Interacts with viewers via social media.

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Baron experience a plus
• Minimum two years' experience preferred in weather reporting or anchoring.
• Superior on-air presence.
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with computers and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
• Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.
