This role exists to support the modeling, numerical simulation, and structural evaluation of advanced optical components within specialized physical hardware engineering teams. Situated between computational physics research and integrated optics development, the position assists in evaluating sub-wavelength optical behavior and resonant mechanisms. Individuals in this capacity perform numerical modeling to help higher-level optics teams establish viable physical parameters for customized light-manipulation components, ensuring experimental device designs align with broader system integration objectives.
The role contributes to enabling hardware infrastructure by supporting the development of specialized photonic components used for precise optical routing, light manipulation, and laser delivery in hardware platforms. Tailored optical devices are essential for controlling trapped ions and other optical quantum systems. By validating sub-wavelength resonant structures through electromagnetic simulations, this function assists engineering teams in refining physical hardware sub-assemblies critical for scalable optical control and quantum system operation.
