Job summary

Valero is seeking a Metallurgy Intern to assist with metallurgy, materials selection, fabrication & welding, and corrosion engineering to enable reliable refinery performance aligned with safety and environmental objectives.

Interns will support refinery operating units, corrosion monitoring, vendor coordination, and materials degradation documentation across multiple Texas locations including Corpus Christi, Texas City, Port Arthur, and San Antonio.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS in Metallurgical Engineering (preferred), Materials Engineering (preferred), or Materials Science (considered) from an accredited university.
• Overall GPA of 3.2 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
• Graduation dates August 2027 through May 2029, required.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week.
• Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with metallurgical, materials, fabrication & welding, and corrosion engineering support for refinery operating units.
• Assist with area of operations support including metallurgy, process corrosion monitoring, corrosion control and mitigation, and vendor coordination.
• Assist with capital projects in materials selection and degradation control methodologies.
• Assist with turnaround organizations in piping/equipment degradation identification and risk-based methodologies.
• Assist with best practices for refinery materials and corrosion control documents.

Bachelor’s of Science in Metallurgical Engineering (preferred)

Bachelor’s of Science in Materials Engineering (preferred)

Bachelor’s of Science in Materials Science (considered)
