Job summary

Stellantis in Kokomo, IN is seeking a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join our Quality team. The role supports Metallurgical Engineers and Materials Scientists in daily lab operations, performing analyses and operating a range of specialized equipment.

You will maintain records, assist in heat treating checks, and conduct failure analyses and visual evaluations as needed. The position requires hands-on technical skills and the ability to work across shifts.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or HS Diploma/GED with technical field experience.
• 2+ years of laboratory experience.
• Basic understanding of metallurgy and chemistry.
• Willingness to work all 3 shifts and overtime including weekends.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist Metallurgical Engineers and Material Scientists in daily lab tasks.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment such as spectrometers, electrolytic analyzers, pH meters and microscopes.
• Maintain computerized records of experimental data and prepare reports.
• Support heat treat, welding and induction hardening checks from the heat treat and production departments.
• Perform engineering testing including failure analysis and visual evaluations as needed.

Job description

The Stellantis Quality Organization is currently seeking a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician professional to join our Quality team in Kokomo, Indiana. This position offers the selected candidate an opportunity to be an internal part of a company whose focus is to change the automotive landscape. The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting Metallurgical Engineers and Material Scientists in day-to-day lab operations. The MetallurgicalLab Technician (MLT) will perform routine technical tasks, including operating and maintaining equipment and conducting analysis and experimental procedures. Metallurgical laboratory technicians maintain computerized records of experimental data and operate a variety of specialized equipment, including spectrometers, electrolytic analyzers, pH meters, centrifuges, cut off saws, mounting presses, specimen polishers, microscopes and automatic micro-hardness testers. The MLT will assist in the daily heat treat, welding and induction hardening checks from the heat treat and production departments. In addition, the MLT will perform engineering testing as required by the Engineers, including failure analysis, visual evaluations and others as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

• Associates degree OR HS Diploma/GED with equivalent experience in a technical field
• 2+ years of laboratory experience
• Knowledge of Excel, Word, Google Sheets
• Basic understanding of metallurgy and chemistry
• Willingness to work on all 3 shifts when required
• Willingness to work a substantial amount of overtime including weekends as required
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates degree or higher in Metallurgy or Material Science
