Job summary

Job Summary

We're looking for a Metallurgical QA Lab Technician to support quality assurance and metallurgical testing activities in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. In this role, you'll prepare and analyze samples, perform laboratory testing, evaluate results against customer and engineering requirements, and help ensure the quality and reliability of critical aerospace components.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Prepare chemistry testing samples, casting samples, and metallographic mounts for analysis.
  • Perform metallurgical evaluations using microscopes and other laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct routine analyses using LECO, XRF, and other testing equipment while ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Evaluate test results to customer, engineering, and quality specifications.
  • Generate reports and document findings from laboratory testing and inspections.
  • Coordinate and track external laboratory testing activities.
  • Prepare quality control samples, including standards, duplicates, round robin samples, and spikes.
  • Communicate test results and technical findings to Engineering and Quality teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting of laboratory data.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts while meeting productivity and quality objectives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting multiple laboratory functions and technical areas as needed.
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, operating procedures, safety rules, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to write routine reports and clearly communicate findings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate results.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a quality-focused environment.
Nice to Have
  • College coursework or technical training in metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in a metallurgical, materials testing, quality assurance, or laboratory environment.
  • Experience operating metallurgical testing or analytical equipment, such as LECO or XRF systems.
  • Experience preparing metallographic samples and performing microscopic evaluations.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment and occasional fumes.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, and perform inspection activities throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly, up to 25 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment required.
  • Vision must meet inspection requirements, including at least Snellen 20/25 corrected or uncorrected in one eye.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toed footwear.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
