Job description

Shape the future of aluminum manufacturing as a Metallurgist in a next-generation flat rolled facility, where your expertise will drive innovation, optimize rolling processes, and set new standards for quality and performance.

We are building one of the most advanced aluminum flat roll mills in North America and are seeking an entry-level Metallurgist to join our Hot Rolling and Cold Rolling divisions at a state-of-the-art operation in Starkville, MS, just outside of Mississippi State University and within close proximity to the University of Alabama.

As a metallurgical subject matter expert, you will collaborate with process and product engineers to optimize aluminum product performance and meet demanding customer requirements across automotive, beverage packaging, and general industrial markets. This role involves establishing rolling parameters, supporting product trials, and maintaining high standards in aluminum metallurgy and surface quality.

Responsibilities
  • Review and approve hot rolling and cold rolling mill capabilities to meet aluminum metallurgical and product specifications for automotive sheet, can stock, and industrial customers.
  • Collaborate with Process Metallurgists and Operations teams to establish rolling line parameters that achieve quality, safety, throughput, and cost objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Provide technical leadership during coil-to-coil rolling operations and product trials, working closely with engineers, supervisors, and production teams to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Analyze rolled aluminum products for surface quality and metallurgical criteria, supporting root cause investigations for internal issues and customer claims through data-driven problem-solving.
  • Develop and implement best rolling practices to improve efficiency, monitor scrap and yield performance, reduce rework, and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in aluminum rolling metallurgy, supporting product development, qualification efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives across the mill.
  • Use process data, metallurgical principles, and structured problem-solving methods to identify production challenges and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Develop corrective action plans, execute them, and monitor results to confirm long‑term effectiveness.
  • Support customer visits, mill tours, and technical exchanges, providing expertise in aluminum hot rolling and cold rolling processes.
  • Mentor and train early-career engineers and technical team members on rolling practices, metallurgy fundamentals, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 0–3 years of experience in metals manufacturing, rolling, casting, or related industrial environments (internship or co-op experience welcomed).
  • Working knowledge of quality systems and standards such as ISO, IATF, or other applicable regulations.
  • Exposure to aluminum rolling processes, flat rolled products, or continuous improvement in manufacturing settings.

This position is located in Starkville, Mississippi, home of Mississippi State University and just an hour from the University of Alabama.

We offer
  • Full relocation package (nationwide candidates encouraged to apply)
  • Extremely competitive starting pay
  • Outstanding growth and advancement opportunities
  • A chance to be part of one of the most modern aluminum flat roll operations in the U.S.
