Job summary

Fabri, an early-stage investment casting startup, seeks a Metallography / QA Technician to join our fast-growing foundry team in Massachusetts. You will analyze metal samples and inspect in-process and finished parts, collaborating with metallurgical, engineering and quality teams to improve capabilities.

This full-time, in-office position requires on-site work at the Billerica/Burlington border; ITAR rules limit applicants to US nationals.

Qualifications

  • Experience in metallurgy, quality engineering, materials science or related engineering is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a foundry, machine shop, metallurgical lab, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal casting samples for metallographic examination.
  • Perform microscopic inspections of polished metal samples to quantify microstructural features and identify defects.
  • Perform tensile testing of machined metal samples following written operating procedures.
  • Perform Gage R&R and measurement system analyses on new and existing equipment.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using 3D Optical scanners and traditional metrology tools.
  • Compare test results with internal and customer requirements, industry standards, and specifications.
  • Assist with other Quality Assurance and metallurgical testing activities as needed.

Metallography / Quality Assurance Technician


Fabri is seeking a detail-oriented to join Metallography / QA Technician to join our fast-growing foundry team


The Company

We are an early-stage investment casting startup building a fully integrated digital foundry. Our mission is to deliver precision metal castings with unparalleled speed and cost-effectiveness. By leveraging our exclusive high-throughput additive manufacturing process and AI-driven design software, we can deliver castings in days, saving our customers critical time and money. We are well capitalized and backed by top-tier investors and major customers, with significant funding raised in the past year. We're shipping parts to several prime contractors and are deeply engaged in several long-term aerospace projects.


Fabri is located on the Billerica/Burlington border. During this startup phase and for the foreseeable future, foundry employees will be on-site and closely involved with building and operating the end-to-end process.

The Role

Using advanced tools, the technician will analyze metal samples and inspect in-process and finished parts, all with the goal of understanding and improving our capabilities. The technician will work directly with Fabri's metallurgical, engineering and quality teams and will be deeply involved in initiatives to make the highest quality parts for our demanding customers.


This is a full-time, in-office position and the shift schedule is flexible. To comply with ITAR registration regulations, candidates for this role must be US nationals (i.e. citizens or lawful permanent residents) to be considered.


Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare metal casting samples for metallographic examination.


  • Perform microscopic inspections of polished metal samples to quantify microstructural features and identify defects.


  • Perform tensile testing of machined metal samples following written operating procedures.


  • Perform Gage R&R and measurement system analyses (MSA) on new and existing equipment.


  • Perform dimensional inspections using 3D Optical scanners and traditional metrology tools.


  • Compare test results with internal and customer requirements, industry standards, and applicable specifications.


  • Assist with other Quality Assurance and metallurgical testing activities as needed.



Qualifications

Experience in metallurgy, quality engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related engineering/science discipline is preferred.



  • Previous experience in a foundry, machine shop, metallurgical laboratory, quality department, or manufacturing environment preferred.


  • Knowledge of basic metallurgy and metal casting processes is a plus.


  • Ability to use basic measuring and inspection equipment.


  • Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize small defects.


  • Ability to read and follow written work instructions and procedures.



Preferred skills/experiences:


  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO, AS9100, FDA GMP, etc.)


  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts, especially 5S and single-piece flow.
