Job summary

Collins Aerospace in West Des Moines, IA is seeking a Metallography Lab Technician to support materials evaluation for engine nozzle components. You will prepare and analyze metallurgical samples and produce data-driven reports.

You will work onsite with engineers, using sectioning saws, wire EDM, mounting presses, grinding and polishing, and imaging software (Pax-it, Keyence). The role emphasizes adherence to lab procedures and safety.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or AA/AS with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in metallography or related materials analysis.
• Familiarity with welding/brazing and metallographic properties preferred.
• Ability to prepare samples and operate microscopy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, section, mount, and analyze metallurgical samples.
• Operate microscopes, hardness testers, and imaging software.
• Document findings in MPCL reports and organize data.
• Assist engineers with process development and failure analysis.
• Coordinate sample logistics and maintain laboratory procedures.
• Troubleshoot lab equipment as needed.
