Motor Controls Inc. (MCI) in Dallas, TX, seeks a Metal Shop Supervisor to lead day-to-day metal fabrication operations, including cutting, forming, punching, machining, welding, grinding, and finishing.

You will coordinate employees, manage workflow, and uphold safety and quality standards to meet production priorities and deadlines. The role requires hands-on supervision, strong communication, and experience reading fabrication drawings and shop documents.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in metal fabrication, welding, machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 1 year of experience leading employees, assigning work, or coordinating production activities.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop prints, work orders, and basic production documentation.
• Working knowledge of common metal shop processes, measuring tools, and safe equipment operation.
• Ability to communicate clearly, organize competing priorities, and address production and employee issues in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily work across assigned metal shop operations to meet production schedules, quality requirements, and customer deadlines.
• Assign employees to jobs and work centers based on production priorities, employee capabilities, equipment availability, and material readiness.
• Review drawings, work orders, bills of material, routings, and other production documents to confirm job requirements and resolve questions before work proceeds.
• Monitor productivity, work quality, scrap, rework, downtime, and job progress; take corrective action and elevate issues when needed.
• Ensure employees follow safety procedures, required personal protective equipment practices, machine-specific rules, and established housekeeping standards.
• Provide hands-on direction, coaching, and training to employees; reinforce standard work and verify that employees can safely and consistently perform assigned tasks.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Materials, Production Planning, and other departments to address equipment, material, drawing, and scheduling issues.
• Perform routine checks of completed and in-process work to verify dimensions, workmanship, and conformance to drawings and quality requirements.
• Support equipment readiness by reporting malfunctions, coordinating maintenance needs, and ensuring required inspections and basic preventive-maintenance activities are completed.
• Manage attendance, performance, conduct, and other employee issues in accordance with company policy and in partnership with Human Resources.
• Maintain accurate production records, labor reporting, training documentation, and other required departmental records.
• Identify and implement practical improvements to workflow, layout, tooling, standard work, safety, quality, and production efficiency.

Job Summary

The Metal Shop Supervisor leads day-to-day production activities across metal fabrication operations, which may include cutting, forming, punching, machining, welding, grinding, and related finishing work. This position is responsible for coordinating employees and workflow, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring production priorities are completed accurately and on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of metal fabrication or related manufacturing experience.
• Two or more years of formal supervisory experience in a job shop or mixed-process manufacturing environment.
• Experience supervising multiple fabrication processes such as laser cutting, punching, press brake forming, welding, machining, or grinding.
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing execution systems, labor reporting, production scheduling, and performance metrics.
• Technical training, trade certification, or an associate degree in manufacturing, welding, machining, industrial technology, or a related field.
