Job summary

American Timber and Steel is seeking a dependable Metal Fabricator / CNC Machinery Operator to join our fabrication team in Norwalk. You will operate CNC plasma tables, bandsaws, and press brakes to produce steel components from production drawings, while prioritizing safety and quality.

Welding is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates have experience in metal fabrication and the ability to read drawings and tape measures, with a strong mechanical aptitude and teamwork mindset.

Qualifications

• Read fabrication drawings, shop prints, work orders and production schedules.
• Measure and inspect finished parts for quality and tolerances.
• Read tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools accurately.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment to process steel materials.
• Operate CNC bandsaw to cut structural steel per specs.
• Set up and operate CNC press brake for forming and bending parts.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and shop orders.
• Load, unload and move materials safely using forklifts.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good condition.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet deadlines.

Job Summary

American Timber and Steel is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Metal Fabricator / CNC Machinery Operator to join our fabrication team. This position is primarily responsible for operating CNC fabrication equipment, including a CNC plasma table, CNC bandsaw, and CNC press brake, to produce high-quality steel components according to production drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a metal fabrication environment, possess strong mechanical aptitude, and maintain a commitment to safety and quality.Welding experience is preferred but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain CNC plasma cutting equipment to accurately process steel materials.
• Operate CNC bandsaw equipment to cut structural steel and other metal products according to specifications.
• Set up and operate CNC press brake equipment for forming and bending metal components.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop prints, work orders, and production schedules.
• Measure and inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances.
• Load, unload, and move materials safely using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good working condition.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
• Assist with general fabrication duties as needed. Qualifications Required
• Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and other measuring instruments accurately.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial environment. Preferred
• Experience operating CNC plasma tables, CNC bandsaws, and CNC press brakes.
• Welding experience (MIG, TIG).
• Experience working with structural steel fabrication.
• Forklift experience and ability to safely handle steel materials. Physical Requirements
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
• Ability to safely lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in varying shop temperatures and conditions.
• Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
