Job summary

Z-Studios in New York is seeking a lead metal fabricator with at least 5 years of architectural metal fabrication experience to produce custom work including furniture, sculpture, lighting and architectural items such as doors, planters, fireplace surrounds and trim.

The ideal candidate is a skilled welder and versatile fabricator, proficient in MIG/TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication, metal finishing, basic manual machining, and tube rolling/bending, with forklift and overhead crane experience

Qualifications

• 5+ years of architectural metal fabrication experience for furniture, sculpture, lighting and architectural items.
• Lead metal fabricator role; not primarily a welder, though welding is essential.
• Proficient in MIG/TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication and metal finishing (polishing, patina).
• Basic machining on manual mill and lathe; familiarity with tube rolling/bending.
• Occasional heavy lifting; forklift and overhead crane experience required.
• Must be 100% reliable, able to work independently and keep a clean, organized workspace.
• Two weeks of paid time off; references and resume required.
• Position available starting September/October.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate architectural metal items including furniture, sculpture, lighting, doors and trim.
• Perform MIG/TIG welding and sheet metal fabrication to spec.
• Apply finishes and patinas; maintain industry-standard surfaces.
• Operate basic machining on manual mill/lathe and assist with tube rolling/bending.
• Safely operate forklift and overhead crane; keep workspace organized and safe.

Job description

Seeking a lead metal fabricator with at least 5 years experience in ARCHITECTURAL METAL FABRICATION for making custom: furniture, sculpture, lighting and architectural items like: doors, planters, fireplace surrounds, and trim. No CNC experience required but CNC press brake experience is a big plus. We are not seeking a \"Welder\". Welding is important but it's a small part of the job requirements.

Applicant must be a skilled welder as well as a versatile fabricator who's proficient in a wide array of tools, machinery and processes. A qualified applicant should also have a deep understanding of various metals and their unique qualities.

Applicant must be proficient in:

MIG/TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication and metal finishing like polishing and patina. You should be familiar with the industry standard finishes and how to create them. A qualified applicant should know basic machining(on manual Mill & Lathe) as well as familiarity with tube rolling/bending. Occasional heavy lifting is a requirement in this position. You should have experience operating a forklift and overhead crane. You MUST be: 100% reliable, comfortable working alone, a good problem solver and able to keep a clean and organized work space.

We are a very small team in a large, clean, organized and well equipped shop.

Regular work hours are M-F, 8:30 - 5:30 with a rare evenings or weekends to meet deadlines.

• 2 weeks PTO is included in your salary.
