Freeform is building AI-native manufacturing systems for advanced metal 3D printing in Hawthorne, near Los Angeles. The Process Engineer (New Grad December 2026) will help invent novel processes, analyze large in situ datasets, and collaborate with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to improve printing technology.

We seek smart, motivated engineers with strong physics foundations and programming skills who enjoy solving hard problems and contributing to a rapidly growing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Strong fundamentals in physics and first principles thinking.
• Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for data processing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the Process Engineering team in understanding the metal additive process by analyzing in situ data.
• Assist in experiments, analyze data, and help develop and optimize processes on a metal additive system.
• Perform post-build metrology measurements and analyze material properties (tensile strength, roughness, microstructure).
• Generate and track quality metrics for printed parts (dimensional accuracy, defect distribution, surface roughness).
• Assist in tool qualification procedures development and implementation.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to improve printing processes.
