University of California, Davis Libraries seeks a Metadata Strategy Specialist to lead local metadata initiatives and assist the Unit Head in the Metadata Creation and Discovery Unit. The role independently performs complex copy and original cataloging of monographic resources across languages and formats, upgrades WorldCat records, and contributes to LC authority maintenance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent library experience.
• 3 years of experience performing complex copy and original cataloging.
• Knowledge of monograph cataloging standards (BIBCO, RDA, AACR2) and MARC21 coding.
• Specialized knowledge of and ability to use LC subject headings and verification sources.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective written and spoken communication.
• Advanced knowledge of library procedures and cataloging tools; ability to autonomously master new systems.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs complex copy and original cataloging of monographic resources in various formats, languages, and subjects.
• Upgrades and enriches WorldCat bibliographic records following local and national standards.
• Contributes to Library of Congress authority file maintenance following current practices.
• Troubleshoots issues related to authority, bibliographical, holding, and item records; assists with batch record loads.
• Leads metadata initiatives related to updating terminology to reflect modern usage and contributes to linked data implementation.
• Supports the Metadata Creation and Discovery Unit and collaborates with the Unit Head on special projects.
