Responsibilities

  • Implement metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage.
  • Configure and maintain data governance, catalog, metadata, and lineage platforms.
  • Establish metadata standards, naming conventions, and management practices.

  • Partner with analysts, stewards, and stakeholders to maintain trusted metadata.
  • Support data discovery and self-service access for authorized users.
  • Develop dashboards measuring catalog adoption, completeness, and governance maturity.

Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact supporting the Case Management Modernization (CMM) Program. The CMM program is an initiative to support the Administrative Office of the US Courts (AO) in developing a modern cloud-based solution to support all 204+ federal courts across the United States.

The Metadata & Data Catalog Specialist will be part of the CMM Data Modernization and Governance team responsible for delivering an integrated data governance, engineering, data platform, reporting, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) capabilities that support operational decision-making and fulfill AO's data and analytics objectives in support of the CMM program.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and operating CMM's metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage capabilities to accelerate CMM modernization efforts. The role establishes consistent metadata practices, enables discovery and understanding of enterprise data assets, and configures and manages governance platforms, catalogs, metadata repositories, and related tooling that make enterprise data discoverable, well-defined, and traceable, enabling effective governance, data quality, and self-service data use across the organization.

The Metadata & Data Catalog Specialist will execute the following responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage capabilities.
  • Configure, administer, and maintain data governance, catalog, metadata, and lineage platforms.
  • Establish metadata standards, structures, naming conventions, and management practices.
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise and domain-level business glossary.
  • Capture and maintain business, technical, operational, and governance metadata.
  • Establish relationships between data assets, business terms, data elements, systems, applications, reports, and data products.
  • Implement and maintain end-to-end data lineage across critical data assets and data flows.
  • Integrate metadata from source systems, databases, data warehouses, data lakes, APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, BI platforms, and other data environments.
  • Configure metadata ingestion, scanning, classification, tagging, and discovery capabilities.
  • Support automated metadata harvesting and synchronization where appropriate.
  • Implement data ownership, stewardship, certification, and approval workflows within governance platforms.
  • Support onboarding new data sources and systems into the data catalog, including configuration of automated metadata harvesting and scanning.
  • Configure integrations between the data catalog/metadata platform and other governance, data quality, and IT systems.
  • Ensure metadata accurately reflects data definitions, classifications, ownership, sensitivity, retention, and other governance attributes.
  • Partner with Data Governance Analysts, Data Quality Analysts, Data Architects, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders to maintain trusted metadata.
  • Support data discovery and self-service data access for authorized users.
  • Develop dashboards and reports measuring catalog adoption, metadata completeness, stewardship, lineage coverage, and governance maturity.
  • Monitor metadata quality and identify gaps, inconsistencies, and stale metadata.
  • Support integration between catalog, governance, data quality, security, privacy, and enterprise architecture capabilities.
  • Develop documentation, procedures, and operating standards for metadata and catalog management.
  • Provide training and support to Data Stewards and business users on catalog and metadata capabilities.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve metadata management and data discovery capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • MA/MS degree with 5+ years of general experience in information systems and 7+ years of specialized experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting enterprise data governance programs.
  • Experience translating governance policy into practical operational processes in delivery environments.
  • Experience governing high-sensitivity or regulated data with clear compliance expectations.
  • Experience with access management and operationalizing privacy requirements.
  • Experience partnering with security, governance, and engineering teams to implement compliant data sharing.
  • Strong process mapping, documentation, and business analysis skills.
  • Excellent facilitation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across business and technical teams.
  • Ability to translate policy and governance requirements into clear, actionable operational procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including development of training and change management materials.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Federal Government or regulated environments.
  • Experience with enterprise data governance/catalog platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise data governance frameworks and operating models.
  • Data management certification.

The likely salary range for this position is $128,039 - $173,229. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
